Multi-omics Insights Into Different Inflammatory Bowel Disease Subtypes

Abstract

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic and recurrent inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract where it is categorized into two main subtypes depending on the damaged part of the gastrointestinal tract: Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). IBD is commonly diagnosed among adolescence and young adulthood but a rising occurrence in pediatric patients has also been reported. Although our understanding on the pathophysiology of IBD have greatly increased over the past several decades, which promotes its current management, there is still a considerable fraction of patients unresponsive to available treatments or failing to achieve clinical remission. In this study, we performed a meta-analysis of publicly available IBD datasets on C-DIAM, a multi-omics analytical software platform that offers custom tools to identify new therapeutic targets for IBD . Particularly, we demonstrate that C-DIAM platform could propose potential targets for different IBD subtypes depending on the combination of different types of -omics data.
